Diego was exceptional! He knew all of the places to look for crabs, birds, frogs, bats, sloths, monkeys, and more! We would never would have had such a worthwhile experience without his knowledge and experience. He also shared valuable information about the park and vegetation that makes us appreciate and value this beautiful country even more!

We had a great time on our walk with Esteban. He was very knowledgeable and very good at finding creatures in the dark; I don’t know how he does it! He took an amazing photo of a tree frog using my phone that I wouldn’t have been able to take myself. Definitely worth it!

Join us in our butterfly garden & research lab and the Medicinal Plants garden, where you will be surrounded by these amazing creatures, showcasing their beautiful colors and unique body parts. Additionally, learn about the use of medicinal plants in Costa Rica.
Our butterfly exhibition is home to over 20 different species of butterflies, which you can observe on this guided tour.
While the garden hosts adult butterflies, the younger stages of the butterfly’s life cycle can be observed in our research lab, where we display their eggs, larvae, and pupa. It is a unique learning experience, and by the end of this tour, you will be able to identify a particular butterfly, its family, and its species.
In the Butterfly Exhibition & Medicinal Plants garden, you will find a collection of medicinal plants, with forest trails that contain plants used in traditional Costa Rican and global medicine. These plants are commonly planted or collected by the local people of the area.
At Biophilia, we also offer various programs apart from the Butterfly Exhibition & Medicinal Plants tour, including an environmental education program, a volunteering program, and a research program. We’d love to tell you more during your visit!
Generally, it’s best to avoid touching the butterflies as it can harm their delicate wings. Instead, enjoy observing them from a safe distance. The exhibition is designed to let you appreciate their beauty without disturbing them.
Wear bright clothing, as butterflies are attracted to vivid colors. Also, avoid using strong perfumes or lotions, which might repel the butterflies. Follow the guidelines provided by the exhibition staff for a safe and enjoyable visit.
