Meet Our Founder
A Passionate Advocate for Conservation
Richard Lemire, the founder of Biophilia, is a dedicated environmentalist with a deep love for nature. His mission is to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and sustainability.
Background
His passion for nature and wildlife led him to establish Biophilia, a place where conservation thrives. His journey began in Quebec, where he learned the value of hard work and developed a self-sufficient mindset.
Motivation
Driven by a desire to protect the environment, Richard founded Biophilia to make a difference. His extensive travels in Asia and his experiences in Costa Rica inspired his commitment to environmental preservation and community development.
Bio
Richard Lemire is the creator of the innovative Biophilia project and other initiatives related to bamboo construction and forest conservation. Inspired by the use of bamboo in various Asian countries, Lemire settled in Costa Rica over 30 years ago. Since then, one of his first initiatives with Biophilia was planting Guadua Bamboo, recognizing the many benefits of this plant and its future potential.
The main building of Biophilia Park is a testament to his vision, combining the tradition of bamboo with the innovation of clean energy sources, such as solar panels and dry toilets. After 25 years of cultivating Guadua, Lemire built his workshop, where he works on new projects. He collaborates with Jorg Stamm, a world-renowned expert in the bamboo field, and trains local workers in this technique. The bamboo he uses is 99% usable, including sawdust, which is used as fertilizer, highlighting Lemire’s commitment to sustainability and the full utilization of natural resources.
